Next Phase of Worthing Heat Network Secures Planning Approval

We’re pleased to announce that the next phase of the Worthing Heat Network has received planning approval — marking a major milestone in delivering a greener, cheaper energy future for Worthing.

This new section will complete the main spine of the network, linking two of Worthing’s best-known landmarks: Splashpoint Leisure Centre and the Pavilion Theatre.

We’ve listened carefully to local feedback and are planning our works with the community in mind:

  • Less disruption: We plan to use a tunnelling method that works underground for the whole route along the promenade and cycle path – meaning fewer open trenches, less fencing, and businesses along the Promenade can keep operating as usual while pedestrians enjoy access to the seafront. While this method isn’t appropriate everywhere, we plan to use it for as much of the pipe route as possible.
  • Thoughtful timing: We’ve scheduled our works on this phase of the network to begin after Fireworks Night and the Christmas holidays, and to finish before the summer school break, minimising impact during the town’s busiest times
  • Keeping Worthing moving: Approximately 16% of the total pipe route will require installation within the highway, a significant reduction compared with previous works.

This phase will unlock even more benefits for Worthing — building on over £2.3 million already invested in the local supply chain, 48 local jobs created, and 20 paid opportunities for local businesses.

We’re looking forward to continuing the conversation with local businesses and residents to ensure they’re supported throughout the works. Together, we’re building a greener, cheaper future for Worthing.
